Jaisalmer is popularly known as the” Golden City of India”. Jaisalmer is sometimes called the “Golden City of India” because the yellow sand gives a yellowish-golden touch to the city and its surrounding area The yellowish sandstone buildings and the dusky golden surroundings really carries a magnetic charm to attract a number of visitors every year.Jaisalmer is named after its founder Rao Jaisal a Rajput king.[1] “Jaisalmer” means “the Hill Fort of Jaisal”. Tourism is a major industry in Jaisalmer, as this city contains some of the best palaces, havelis, forts,ancient temples and oldest libraries of India, which are truly emblems of India’s rich architectural heritage along with amber-hued houses scattered around the desertscape.Though Jaisalmer is a very sandy city, with a low annual rainfall. There is one one relatively small river flowing through the city itself and this is named as ‘Kakni’. The Kakni River meanders for almost 30 miles / 48 km, before becoming the Bhuj-Jhil Lake.The twinkling city of Jaisalmer lies in the heart of the great Indian Thar Desert of Rajasthan.The city and the famous fort of Jaisalmer were founded by Maharawal Jaisal in the year 1156 AD, after having shifted his capital from Ludharva to a safer place. At that time, Jaisalmer state was under the rule of Bhati Clan of Yadu Rajputs of Chandrawanshi race.

According to the legends, the Yadu Rajputs ruled and constructed Forts at Kashi, Mathura, Pragvad, Gajni, Bhatner, Digam, Dirwal, Lodurva and ninth in Jaisalmer. Later in the year 1818, a treaty was signed between Maharawal Moolraj-II and the British government which guaranteed to the ruler and his posterity the principality of Jaisalmer. Post independence, in 1949 Jaisalmer city was merged into the Indian state of Rajasthan. Jaisalmer is also one of the most important pilgrim destinations for Jain communities of India, as it contains some of the most beautiful and significant Jain temples, most notable among those is dedicated to 16th Tirthankar Lord Shantinath and 23rd Tirthankar Lord Parshvanath.This beautiful golden city also has some unique features as camel safari or the desert festivals along with its unique nightlife.The tourist can have an unexplainable memory during the visit to Jaisalmer and also enjoy a handful of energising experience of a camel ride across the rough desert and small villages along with the colourful vibes of Jaisalmer’s great desert festivals.The dazzling desert nightlife, historical destinations and the exotic Rajasthani cuisines and also add an extra glitter to those experiences.
