Introducing Jaipur
Jaipur literally means the City of Victory. It is also known as the Pink City of India. The well maintained various royal attractions has made Jaipur an eye-catching destination for the tourists. This Pink City stands enclosed by walls and imposing gateways with the pinkish charm.This city is Known as the Pink City because of the colour of the stone used exclusively in the walled city. The Pink City’s regular grid-plan, with wide, dead-straight streets, laid out at right angles and broadening to spacious plazas at major intersections, was created in accordance with the Vastu Shastras, ancient Hindu architectural treatises and arranged as a Mandala or sacred diagram. Its uniform pink colour was intended to camouflage the poor-quality materials from which its buildings were originally constructed. It is the largest city in Rajasthan and was built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh as India’s first planned city. The city derives its name from the warrior Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder. Though Jaipur is chaotic and congested, it still has a habit of tickling travellers pink. Stunning hilltop forts and glorious kingly palaces fit like footprints from a rich royal past, bright turbans blaze a trail through brilliant bargain-filled bazaars, and fluttering saris catch the eye. With a population of around 2.5 million, Jaipur is the state’s most advanced commercial and business centre, and its most prosperous city- some estimates rank it among the world’s 25 fastest growing cities, with an annual population growth of over 3.5 percent.
